Mireu Martial Arts Basic Class Descriptions

We strive to help our students understand the connection between what they learn in class and the real-world applications that make martial arts practical and insightful skills for school-age, and beyond.

Something for Everyone

Taekwondo

A version of an ancient form of unarmed combat. “Tae” meaning to jump, kick, or smash with the foot & “Kwon” meaning to punch or destroy with the hand or fist.​ 

 

Taekwondo was originally developed to protect oneself and loved ones from those who would harm them.

​​

In Taekwondo class you learn forms, step sparring, and free sparring techniques.

AGES 4 & older

KumDo

A Korean Style of Sword Fighting...

​​

Training includes a strong emphasis on basic sword technique, step sparring, and forms.

​​

Students begin block, strike, and slash training using a wooden sword for safety.

 

AGES 12 & older

Kyudo Renmei

Traditional Japanese archery. 

 

You will learn how to effectively utilize the Japanese longbow as an individual archer, but also how to participate in group ceremonies, conduct yourself with proper ‘Reiho’ (courtesy and respect), and pursue a path of self improvement.

AGES 16 & older

Must be at least 5 feet tall due to the size of the bow

Aikido

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that emphasizes using an opponent’s energy and movements against them, rather than relying on brute strength.

AGES 18 & older

Kali

Kali is a Filipino Martial Art (FMA) that focuses primarily on weapons based self defense.

 

Classes start with stick based applications and progress to both empty hand vs. weapon, as well as knife and blade defense.
