Mireu Martial Arts USA provides classes in Tae Kwon Do and Kumdo for all ages. We are a diverse community of students and masters with the intention to foster a love and appreciation for the ancient martial arts of Tae Kwon Do and Kumdo in order to cultivate a life with balance. Our school seeks to provide a home for practicing martial artists who wish to develop their bodies, minds, and spirit.
Colored Belt Promotion Pre-test Monday December 9th
Pre-testing day may go longer them 7:00PM please plain accordingly.
Full White Uniform, with belt required. Please be on time to class 5:30 PM, if possible be 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out promotional application.
Student is to turn in Home Chore/Volunteer sheet with parent signature and signature of where the 2 Volunteer experience’s took place.
Students will fill out pre-testing form with instructors.
Instructors will grade performance with P-Pass, C- Conditional or not ready for testing at this time.
All students are expected to test unless told by Master Matthews that they are not ready. Master Matthews will discuss with student and parent reason for waiting. Being told to wait is not to be considered a negative, students’ progress at different levels.
Students who receive a C-Conditional have to end of Thursday’s class to correct the conditional and receive permission to test on Saturday.
Promotion Application is to be turned in with payment by end Of Thursday’s class, applications received late will be assessed a $20 late fee.
Mireu Black Belt/Colored Belt Testing - December 14, 2019
Black Belts and Adult students present at dojang 7:30 AM for set up and warm up.
Colored Belts present at dojang 8:00 AM
Students 5 years and younger present at 9:30 AM – can attend early to watch Black Belts – not required
Please be on time or 10 to 15 minutes early.
Full White uniform with belt required. Bring Full Sparring Gear
Black Belt testing will begin promptly at 8:15 AM colored belts expected to attend for support and learning experience.

Around the World Holiday Party
December 18, 2019
5:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Everyone welcome – This event is for the whole family parents, siblings and friends are welcome as long as supervised by adult invitee. We ask that you do not drop your student off. If you as a parent can not attend, please speak to Master Matthews prior to the event. Cost for dropping student off and not attending is $25 for the evening. Our intention is to celebrate the holiday season getting to know each other and celebrating in our diversity of cultures as Taekwondo family.
We ask that each family bring a dish to share that represents your family’s celebrations and culture. (please note ingredients due to possible allergic reactions, cultural/religious practices).
Master Matthews will provide dinner ware, drinks, Turkey, party potatoes and rolls.
Feel free and encouraged to wear your traditional clothing that represents your culture, beliefs and celebrations.
We would like students, family members to share your musical talents with us - vocal, instrumental. Songs to celebrate the holiday season, your culture, your holidays even if celebrated at another part of the year. (Mic’s , amplifier provided).
When we share food, share our traditions, play together, make music together we learn to care for each other - Taekwondo Family at its best.

Tae Kwon Do
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. Taekwondo emphasizes kicking because the leg is the longest and strongest tool the martial artist has readily available. While punching techniques are used in sparring and forms, the legs are trained in much greater detail. Because of this, Taekwondo is popular with both men and women independent of age or size. Speed, endurance, grace, and flexibility are all of benefit to a Taekwondo artist.
Kumdo is a martial art that deals exclusively with sword work. This area of study use both sparring and forms (hyung) to help the student understand this traditional weapon. Sparring emphasizes awareness, acute observation, and perserverance along with controlled, quick, and precise movements in such a way that allows anyone of any age, size, or gender to be competitive with anyone else. Timing and skill are key to all martial arts, but are epitomized in Kumdo study.
Providing expert instruction in the arts of Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kum Do in Coralville, Iowa City and surrounding area’s. Mireu’s Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Kum Do classes offer an excellent all around family activity. There’s no better way to give the gift of long healthy life. Add significant days, months, even years to your life by learning from the sages.
