April 1st We will continue classes in the park weather permiting and if needed we will train in the dojang limit 15 students per class.  We will utilize sign-up genius to sign up for in person classes in the dojang.  In the fall after COVID vaccines are at a higher percentage we will go back to class in the dojang normal schedule.

At Mireu we train together all ages starting at 4 years old and up.  When a student needs individual help a higher rank belt is assigned to mentor the student and give extra assistance.  We have found that the little children look up to the older students.  Having higher rank students assist lower ranks, teaches good leadership skills.  We encourage families to train together.

Masks and shields must be worn at all times.

Dojang COVID-19 Rules

  • Masks and shields must be worn at all times.  If wearing a mask, students need to be careful not to pull or let it fall down as much as possible.
  • Students maintain 6 feet distance from each other social distancing. We will have the floor marked to help with this.
  • Parents maintain 6 feet social distance while sitting on bleachers and limit one parent per family or student in dojang.
  • No playtime before of after class in dojang. Although we know the kids enjoy socializing and running around before class, this is another way we are trying to minimize contact and practice social distancing safely.
  • While students and instructors are in dojang we will not Ki-yap (yell)
  • We will have no more than 10 students in the school at any time.
  • When entering the dojang, students and parents please wash hands with hand sanitizer provided.
  • Water and Gatorade will no longer be sold at the dojang.  Students must bring their own water and make certain they can identify their water.  Store bought water must be labeled with the student’s name.  Students must throw away, recycle, or take their water home with them.
  • Only one person or family in the changing room at a time.  Please knock before entering to make sure no one is there. Best to come to class in uniform.
  • The dojang doors will be open/weather permitted and fans working to ventilate the dojang.
  • Students with hay fever, mild colds will be allowed to train. If running any fever do not attend class.
  • Students exhibiting major symptoms (continuing cough, trouble breathing, flu like symptoms, loss of smell or taste, and especially fever we strongly suggest seeking medical treatment and getting tested for COVID.  While symptoms are present you cannot attend class. Please self-quarantine.

If a student tests positive for COVID, they must stay at home 10 days until they are clear.

My top priority is to make a safe environment for all to train.  I am in daily contact with  Alejandro Comellas Freymond, MD Director, Clinical Research Support, ICTS
Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine – Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine University of Iowa.  Parent of Mr. Michael Comellas.
Each day I will receive from Dr. Comellas a text msg with Johnson County COVID 19 percentages.  These percentages for our county will drive our decision to remain open.  At times if percentages rise we may need to close for a week or two for percentages to go down.
We will work with students and parents to give you the latest information to educate and navigate the Corona Virus safely.  We hope to be a leader in these efforts teaching the kids about proper PPE usage, Social Distancing, and related Covid information.  As we look at the opening of public schools children will need to be informed, have experience and guidance.  Taekwondo can reinforce your home efforts to keep all of us safe.  Please feel free to contact me via phone 319-430-2395 or email for any questions and needed information.
